Etchiworks INC. ("Etchimaths", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This notice explains what personal information we collect through our mobile and desktop apps and the etchimaths.com website (together, the "Services"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Services you acknowledge this notice. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Services or create an account.

Our privacy principles

We collect only the information we reasonably need to run the Services.
We use it for the purposes described here and do not sell it.
We take reasonable steps to protect it, and we are open about what we do with it.
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information.

1. Personal information we may collect

Personal information is information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you. Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect the following.

Identity and contact information: your name, username, email address, phone number (where you give one), and role (for example student, teacher or parent).
Account information: your country, education level, school (if you enter it), sign-in details, and an optional profile photo.
Study activity: the exercises and papers you take, your results and the time you spend studying.
Payment information: the plan you buy, the amount, the payment method used and the status of the payment. Payments are handled by our payment partners; we do not receive your full card details.
Device and usage information: your device type, app version, approximate location derived from your connection, and security-related activity.
Communications: what you send us when you contact us, apply as a teacher, or join one of our community programmes.

2. How we get your personal information

From you, when you create an account, use the Services, subscribe, fill in a form or contact us.
Automatically, from your device and connection when you use the Services.
From others, for example from Google if you choose to sign in with Google, from our payment partners about the result of a payment, or from a parent, guardian or teacher who sets up an account for a child.

3. Why we may use your personal information

Depending on the situation, we rely on one or more of the following:

Your consent, for optional features you choose to use.
Contract: to provide the Services you ask for, including your account and any plan you buy.
Legal obligations: for example accounting records and lawful requests from authorities.
Legitimate interests: to keep the Services safe, prevent misuse and fraud, and improve them.

4. How we use your personal information

To create and manage your account and give you access to the content you are entitled to.
To provide, personalise, maintain and improve the Services, including saving your study progress.
To process payments, activate access, and issue invoices and receipts.
To protect the Services, our users and ourselves against misuse, fraud and security incidents.
To communicate with you about your account, support requests and important changes.
To comply with the law and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information, and the Services do not show third-party advertising.

5. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to give you access to your personal information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to certain uses, or give you a copy of it. You may withdraw consent you have given, without affecting what happened before.

To delete your account and associated data, follow the instructions at https://etchimaths.com/delete-account/, or use the delete option in the app. For any other request, write to support@etchimaths.com from the email address linked to your account. We may need to verify your identity first, and we may decline a request, in whole or in part, where the law allows or requires us to (for example where we must keep records, or where the request is unfounded or abusive). We reply within 30 days. A parent or guardian may make a request on behalf of their child.

7. Security and retention

We use reasonable organisational and technical measures, including trusted third-party technology for authentication, payments and encryption, to protect personal information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for choosing a strong password, keeping it and your device confidential, and telling us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed for the purposes in this notice, to meet legal, accounting and reporting obligations, and to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable time, except what we must or may lawfully keep, such as billing records. Copies in backups are removed in the ordinary course.

8. Marketing

We send marketing messages only where you have agreed or the law allows. You can opt out at any time by following the instructions in the message or writing to support@etchimaths.com. We will still send messages about your account, payments, security and important changes.

9. Cookies

The website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences such as language, and understand how the site is used. You can control cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the website may not work properly without them.

10. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for it, so the Services do not currently respond to it.

11. Children

Our Services are used by students of all ages, including children. A child under 13, or under the age at which applicable law requires parental consent, should use the Services only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who is responsible for creating and managing the account and who accepts this notice on the child's behalf. By creating an account for a child, you confirm that you are that child's parent or legal guardian, or are authorised by them.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without the required parental consent. If you believe we have, contact us at support@etchimaths.com and we will take appropriate steps, including deleting it.

12. International transfers

We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we do so as permitted by applicable law and take reasonable steps to protect it.

13. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. The updated version applies from the date shown at the top. If a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to tell you, for example in the app. Continuing to use the Services after a change means you accept the updated notice.

Please contact us first with any concern about your personal information so that we can try to resolve it. Nothing in this notice limits any rights you may have under mandatory law. This notice and any dispute about it are governed by the laws of Cameroon, without limiting any rights you have under mandatory law where you live.

Definitions

Account: The Etchimaths profile you create to use the Services.
Applicable law: The law that applies to the processing of your personal information, including the laws of Cameroon and any mandatory law of the place where you live.
Cookies: Small files that a website stores in your browser to recognise you or measure visits.
Personal information: Any information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.
Services: The Etchimaths mobile apps, desktop licences and the etchimaths.com website.
